FAIL

I like it when recipes surpise me. When you look at the ingredients and think - oh my, that's going to be absolutely terrible - and then it's the best thing you have ever tasted, I love it!!
So I saw this recipe called "Congo Tofu" and it looked pretty interesting.

"This combination of tomato paste, peanut butter, onion, garlic, and tofu may seem odd, but it is delicious. Give it a try!"

PREP TIME 20 Min
COOK TIME 20 Min
READY IN 40 Min

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
3 tablespoons peanut oil
1 pound tofu, cubed
1/2 white onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/2 cup peanut butter
Add to Recipe Box

DIRECTIONS
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the tofu in the oil until browned, about 10 minutes. Add the onion and garlic; cook and stir until the onion is translucent, 3 to 5 minutes. Mix in the tomato paste and peanut butter; cook and stir until peanut butter has melted completely, about 5 minutes.

Peanut butter = Awesome.
Peanut butter + tomato paste = horrible nasty gross.
First of all, I burnt the crap out of my nice wok-type pan frying the tofu. I'm sure the peanut butter didn't help matters. And then when I was all done, I took a bite and it wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't good. I thought maybe it would grow on me after a couple bites. So I sat down and tried to eat it and realized that my "eat more and you may like it theory" was not going to work. The tomato paste and the peanut butter didn't compliment each at all. It was like they were hardcore street fighting in my mouth and both losing terribly. So there goes a pound of tofu down the garbage can. Bummer.

I microwaved a gardenburger and plopped it on a bun. Dinner.
